Arriving in Doha

Once you arrive in Qatar, the best public transportation options are by way of private cars, taxi cabs or public buses. Most transportation options are owned by a large company associated with the government, Mowasalt Karwa, although it is possible to find private cars that are unaffiliated. Private car options can be expensive, although there are much more accommodating than other forms Bus travel is the most economical option and routes run throughout the country, from the southern Umm Said Mesaieed to Dukahn in the West to the northern hub of Al Shamal. While you can also rent bikes for shorter travel, the climate can be quite hot, making motorized transport by far the best option.

Try to plan out your transportation options in advance so you can easily make your way to your destination - if you're traveling for business, it's likely that you'll be in the major cities and perhaps in Doha for the majority of your trip. Either way, advance planning for both your method of transportation and your visa will help to ensure that you can focus on the business at hand, without worrying about transport routes during your stay.

The most common airport and travel destination is the capital, Doha. A flurry of construction within Doha has produced a growing range of hotel choices for visitors, ranging from basic, local accommodations to upscale, world class luxury hotels. The influx of upscale international hotel chains into the city has dotted the landscape with a number of well known options for international travelers.

Among the traditional, nicer local hotels are a number of long-range and business traveler options, which were mostly built in the last decade. Although the country's new international hotels were built int he last few years, the majority of the country's nicer hotel options were all relatively recent developments. Local options include the Al Muntaza Plaza which offers long-term furnished rooms and even apartments for business travelers. Another prime four-star hotel is the Mercure Doha, which is centrally located and near the airport, with fully featured amenities and a row of full service restaurants.
